The Monsoon Session opened with sharp political exchanges as the Samajwadi Party intensified its attack over alleged NEET irregularities and demanded stronger safeguards for competitive exams.

Just before the start of the Monsoon Session of Parliament on Monday, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav launched a strong attack on the BJP-led Central government. He accused the ruling party of functioning with arrogance and ignoring the concerns of ordinary people, especially students.
The Monsoon Session is expected to witness heated debates as opposition parties prepare to raise several national issues, including alleged irregularities in competitive examinations such as NEET-UG.

Speaking to reporters, Akhilesh Yadav claimed that the BJP government was not paying attention to the voices of citizens. He said the government was working with an “egoistic” attitude instead of addressing public concerns.

Drawing a comparison with India’s colonial past, Yadav alleged that the BJP was acting in a way similar to British rulers. He said that while the British had looted the country in history, the BJP was also harming the nation through its actions.
The Samajwadi Party chief also focused on issues faced by students. Referring to the controversy surrounding the NEET examination, he said questions about alleged irregularities had still not been answered.
Yadav argued that the government should at least listen to students who have repeatedly expressed concerns over the examination process. He questioned the government’s claims of “Amrit Kaal” while students continue to raise doubts about the fairness of competitive exams.
His remarks come at a time when examination-related issues remain one of the major political topics expected to dominate Parliament.
Samajwadi Party MP Virendra Singh also took a firm stand before the session began. He said his party would not allow Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to speak in Parliament until the government creates a strong and reliable system to prevent question paper leaks in NEET and other competitive examinations.
According to Singh, students deserve complete confidence that important entrance tests will never again be affected by paper leaks or similar controversies.
He said the demand was aimed at ensuring transparency and protecting the future of students appearing for competitive examinations.
Virendra Singh also made it clear that the Samajwadi Party would remain united on the issue. He said all party members would fully support whatever decision is taken by SP national president Akhilesh Yadav regarding the party’s strategy during the Monsoon Session.
The opposition is widely expected to press the government on examination-related issues when discussions begin in Parliament.
As the eighth session of the 18th Lok Sabha officially began, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla welcomed Members of Parliament and appealed for constructive discussions.
In a post on X, Birla described Parliament as the country’s “supreme temple of democracy.” Referring to the morning rainfall in Delhi, he called it a positive sign and said it had filled the atmosphere with freshness and renewed energy.
The Speaker expressed hope that all members would work together in a spirit of positive cooperation to ensure meaningful discussions during the Monsoon Session.
